Hey friends!! I’m a Chinese international student and now a bilingual therapist. I came to the U.S. for grad school, my two years here has been quite an adventure. I still remember how exhausting it was to fully prepare myself, both mentally and physically, before coming here. One of the most valuable things I've gained during my time as an international student is finding a supportive community. As approaching graduation, my friends and I wanted to create an inclusive and understanding space where international students can access resources and connect with each other. That’s why I-Planet was created! We're thrilled and grateful to meet all our new friends here:)

Hello there! I’m a former international student, now an international worker, from China. I spent my undergrad in Canada and have been in the US for 2 years now! Being an international is NOT EASY, it’s like you are spending so much time to just reach the starting point as everyone else…but we can also make it as thriving as anybody else’s if we want!

When I came to the US for college in 2019, everything was new and confusing to me. I was not confident in my English, under financial pressure, and didn’t know how to present myself professionally. But I was lucky enough to attend an inclusive and supportive university for my undergraduate (GO ILLINI!) and use the resources available to navigate challenges. While doing my master’s in Philly, I felt that there could be more support and resources for international students. I’m so glad I met amazing friends who feel the same way—so here we are!

I’m an international education professional passionate about building spaces where people feel a sense of belonging, connection, and joy. At I-Planet, I lead the planning and coordination of events, manage outreach and communications, and design creative materials that inspire engagement among international students and alumni. I love playful ideas, meaningful conversations, and the magic that happens when people come together with curiosity and care.

My journey across China, the United States, and Denmark taught me to see the world with both depth and wonder, and that perspective fuels how I design experiences that help others learn, connect, and feel at home everywhere. I am especially interested in using education, arts, and community-building as tools for connection, healing, and cross-cultural understanding.

Hi! The year 2025 marks my seventh year as a Chinese international student in the United States. My community of Chinese international students has always been, and will always be, a source of strength and solidarity for me. This community supports me through my adjustments, my ups and downs, and shapes who I am and the research I conduct. Some questions that guide my research include: What does it mean to be a temporary educational and vocational migrant? What is my bicultural identity? How do we support our community? I am incredibly grateful to be able to translate research into action items and to support a wonderful group of people in i-Planet and in Philadelphia!

Kumusta! This is how we say 'hello' or 'how are you' in the Philippines. Yes, it sounds Spanish because my country was colonized by Spain for 300 years. However, the Cordilleran region, where I proudly hail from as a daughter of an Igorot tribe, was not subdued by the Spanish conquest. Our ancestors bravely defended and preserved our culture and values. This story is my heritage and identity, which I brought with me when I came to Penn to pursue a master's program in education. I was grateful and honored to represent my roots. However, navigating this new space was not a walk in the park. Sharing your uniqueness and differences, just like I shared here, may or may not be welcomed – this is a hard truth I discovered living and studying in the U.S. But there's always a silver lining! Organizations like i-Planet exist, providing a safe and supportive space with valuable resources drawn from their real experiences and advocacy. They help international students thrive and feel a sense of belonging!
